Developing countries are experiencing changes in nutrition that have already occurred in affluent
nations. Large segments of populations display underweight or overweight within a single
country. In Vietnam, overweight is emerging primarily in the urban affluent population and may
be associated with increased risk for coronary heart disease. See the paper by Hanh et al.
(pp. 616-622). Detail from a fresco of a bureaucrat
and his scribe in the Grotto of Nhoi at Tranh Hoa, Vietnam, probably eighteenth century.
