Soy foods have been eaten for centuries in Asia and only recently gained widespread popularity
in the West for potential health benefits. The study by Uesugi et al. (pp. 97-102) reports beneficial effects from ingestion of soy
isoflavones in Japanese women. Just as research describes conflicting data on various health
endpoints from isoflavone consumption, this painting combines contradictory types of women.
