About the Cover

Cover Figure

On the Cover: Tobacco is the only consumer product hazardous to health when used as intended. In addition, it is the most important modifiable factor in risk for cardiovascular disease. See the paper by Nam et al. [pp. 372-378]. Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette (1886) is a small (9x13 inch) oil painting by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). The dark colors are typical of the artist's palette while in the Netherlands; the subject is considered a comment not on health but on the conservative art world of the time. From the permanent collection of the Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh, Amsterdam.
