On the Cover: While overweight and obesity are clearly more prevalent in affluent countries,
these conditions are now found with regularity in almost all nations and in all age groups. When
adolescents and young adults practice weight control measures, it is likely they have experienced
weight problems and/or distorted images of desirable weights since childhood. See the paper by
Tamim et al. (pp. 391-396). "The Fat Child," 1915, by Amadeo Modigliani (1884-1920), an
Italian artist whose paintings and sculpture are easily recognized with thin, overly elongated
human forms which were influenced by his study of African sculptures and masks. Modigliani
produced many popular works before his death at the age of 36 from tubercular meningitis.
