About the Cover
While more research needs to be done on the range of factors associated with eating meals away from home and on the type of restaurant and food that is chosen, researchers Violet Perez Siwik and Janet H. Senf have given additional support to studies that indicate socioeconomic status, ethnicity and food cravings are related to adult and child patterns of eating out (pp. 382-388). Tom's, featured as Monk's on Seinfeld, may be one of the most famous restaurants in America. It gives context to Suzanne Vega's pop song from 1981, "Tom's Diner," and is found on the ground floor of Armstrong Hall, a building owned by nearby Columbia University, housing some of the University's programs, along with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. The image, made in 2000, is the work of multitalented Cincinnati artist Rick Dikeman, who gives permission to copy, distribute and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or subsequent versions. It is found in the Wikipedia.
