Conflict of Interest Disclosures Associated with JACN Volume 25, Number 3(S), June 2006

Alexander Logan MD, guest editor & introduction, pp. 165–169: Dr. Logan had sole responsibility for selecting the authors and choosing the topics for the sodium supplement. There was no input from ILSI or the salt industry. The topics were chosen to provide a comprehensive overview of sodium and human health. The authors were selected based on their reputation for scientific excellence and knowledge in the assigned topic.

Dr. Logan does not hold any research grants or receive research support from the food industry or any salt organization and has no ownership interests in any business related to the food or salt industries. Finally, while he provides consultative advice to many organizations including ILSI, he accepts no fee or honoraria and has no financial ties to ILSI.

Rick L. Sharp, pp. 231S–239S: Dr. Sharp formerly served as a paid consultant to the Campbell Soup Company. The study described in reference #38 (Ray et al. JAP, 1998) was supported by a research grant from Campbell Soup Company.

Approximately a decade ago he received a modest honorarium from the Salt Institute for a presentation; he has no present support from either the Salt Institute or any food or nutrition related company.

Robert P. Heaney, pp. 271S–276S: Dr. Heaney years ago received a modest honorarium for a presentation to the medical advisory panel of the Salt Institute. Since then he has had no relationship with the Salt Institute. He serves as a speaker for Merck & Co. and also serves on medical advisory panels for both IDFA and the National Dairy Council. He has done contract reviews for the dairy industry. Additionally, he presented lectures for Procter & Gamble/Alliance for Bone Health, mostly with respect to the importance of calcium and vitamin D.
